Ycee came into the game at a time when real hip-hop lovers were in dire need of a thorough mopping in naija rap-music. A couple of real rappers who came before him either phased out as a result of Olamide and Phyno's collective mediocrity or metamorphosed into mediocres themselves.
When Ycee dropped the song 'Condo' featuring Patoranking, there was relief. He consolidated his huge influence in the game by dropping a hit, 'Jagaban'. At that point, he took over the crown from a sleeping Ice Prince who was given the crown on a platter of ice by the legendary MI.
When Davido brought Dremo into the game, alot of Ycee's fans shivered. There were speculations of the DMW prodigy taking over the rap game, little did they know that he would fizzle into thin air almost immediately. Ycee's name resonated once more like a boomerang.
Of late, the Tinny entertainment money machine has toyed the path of mediocrity, singing more than rapping. Hmm! What a colossal loss and waste! What a collosal vanishing and vanquishing! What an abysmal self defeat and collapse!
Regrettably speaking, the street's confidence in Ycee's rap has waned. A revival is plausible only if he is willing. But until that revival takes place, a search for a befitting head for the almighty crown of hip-hop is imminent.
I'm just frankly speaking.
